Help, I’ve got a problem.

While healthy living can get you out of the cycle of catching every illness that is going around, these are supplements that can help you with an immediate problem.

  • Viruses:
    • My favorites for when trying to prevent whatever is going around:
    • I take these as recommended on the bottle UNLESS I feel symptoms coming on. Once symptoms are coming on, I’ve found that what works best for me is usually taking a dose every couple of hours until symptoms stop getting worse. Then I back off to taking it 3-4 times per day until I see continued improvement. After I feel like I’m recovering, I continue to take at least the minimal dose as recommended on the bottle for an additional days to help prevent relapse like Long COVID and clear the virus out of my system more quickly.

  • Constipation
    • My favorite go-to for constipation is magnesium citrate. I start slowly, taking these in the evening with plenty of water. Build up until you are going regularly every day. My favorite brands:

  • IBS/SIBO
    • After struggling for years and trying various medications, I was able to get this totally under control using the methods of Dr. Mark Pimentel of UCLA/Cedars-Sinai. His most recent book “The Microbiome Connecction” may be revolutionary in getting your IBS under control. I have found that his observations and recommendations follow precisely what I experienced. For me, probiotics and prebiotics often worsened by symptoms before I got the harmful bacteria under control.
      • Working with your doctor, you may need a targeted antibiotic like rifaximin to help control the bad bacteria.
        • For Hydrogen-predominant SIBO, rifaximin may be sufficient.
        • For Methane-predominant SIB), rifaximin plus metronidazle may be needed.
        • Hydrogen sulfide SIBO may require rifaximin plus bismuth but a qualified doctor can guide you to the best tests and solutions.
  • I purchased a copy of Dr. Pimentel’s book for my doctor after we had tried other methods without success and my doctor was flexibile and open to trying a new option. Hopefully yours will be, too.
